THE ACTIVITIES OF IRAVAN TEACHERS’ SEMINARY AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO AZERBAIJAN EDUCATION

Abstract. The article analyzes the historical conditions under which the Iravan Teachers’ Seminary was established. The establishment of the seminary, its activities, its place, and its role in the educational history of Azerbaijan are discussed. Based on scientific research and sources, the content of education in the seminary, the activities of Azerbaijani teachers, the participation of students in the educational process, and the work they do in the educational direction are reported. The Iravan Teachers’ Seminary, established in the second half of the 19th century, played a major role in the development of education in this region. Graduates of the seminary were intellectuals with a broad outlook who taught in primary schools in various regions of the South Caucasus. They influenced the formation of personalities with a democratic spirit. Many of the Azerbaijani graduates of the seminary became outstanding figures in science, education, and culture, and occupied a special place in the history of Azerbaijan.
