WEST AZERBAIJAN TRUTHS: ABOUT PROMINENT SOCIAL AND POLITICAL FIGURE AZIZ ALIYEV

Abstract. The ancient Azerbaijani city of Iravan, currently in the hands of Armenians, has given hundreds of intellectuals to the people of Azerbaijan. In the 19th century, a large network of schools and madrasahs existed in this city, and religious and secular sciences developed. After the occupation of Azerbaijan by Russia, secular schools began to surpass religious schools. Officials of tsarist Russia, implementing the policy of Russification and Christianization, first opened emergency schools in Iravan in order to meet the educational needs of the local population, then they turned it into a pro-gymnasium, and then into a gymnasium. The increase in the number of Russian-language schools increased the need for teaching staff. After the establishment of the Iravan Teachers’ Seminary in 1881, a network of schools involving Azerbaijanis was formed in the city and in Iravan province in general. In the article, a list of some of those who studied at the Iravan Gymnasium and the Iravan Teacher’s Seminary and received higher education and interesting in formation about his life and activities on the prominent social and political figure Aziz Aliyev is given.
