ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ARMENIAN STATE IN THE LAND OF IRAVAN
Abstract. The article talks about one of the most painful events in the history of the Azerbaijani people - the transfer of the Yerevan lands to Armenia. Considering that the first battle of the Russo-Iranian war of 1804-1813 and the last battle of the 2nd Russo-Iranian war of 1826-1828 were fought for the Iravan fortress, it is not difficult to understand how important this strategic position is. It is noted that with the creation of «Armenian Province» from Iravan and Nakhchivan provinces, territorial claims of Armenians in the South Caucasus were secured. However, despite the fact that the tsarist government settled Armenians in this area on a large scale, the local Azerbaijani population still had a significant superiority in numbers.
