TEACHING THE CONCEPT AND APPLICATIONS OF FRACTIONS AT THE PRIMARY EDUCATION LEVEL
Abstract. The article discusses the introduction, teaching, and applications of fractions, including common and decimal fractions, based on the new generation of mathematics textbooks that were introduced in the 2020/2021 academic year. For the first time, the concept of fractions as parts of a whole, the representation of parts as common and decimal fractions, comparison of fractions with equal denominators (or numerators), finding the fraction of a number, calculating the sum and difference of fractions with equal denominators, mixed numbers and their comparison, decimal fractions, and their comparison, sum, and difference have been included in primary school mathematics textbooks. The article explores these concepts and provides relevant suggestions for teaching them. It recommends using the proposed methodology for the introduction and teaching of the concept of fractions and their applications. This approach takes into account the most subtle nuances during the writing of textbooks, such as the selection of theoretical knowledge and exercises, which ultimately contributes to the improvement of textbook quality and ensures that students learn the concepts in an organized manner.
Keywords: addition and subtraction, part, fraction, common and decimal fraction, finding the fraction of a number, comparison of fractions, comparison of fractions with equal denominators, mixed numbers, and decimal fractions.
